Hello all, and welcome back to our Young People’s Development Group (YPDG) blog!
I am your writer, Jake, and I’m going to be taking you on a journey of February at the YPDG. This month we have been really busy and had lots of fun doing activities from filling our half term to devouring pizza. Let’s take a look!
At the start of the month we got together to enjoy some pizza as a group at Dough Bros in Cleethorpes. We all had different pizzas such as goat’s cheese, pepperoni, meat feast and a plain cheese. Personally, I went for the Smoky Pecker, which came as a pizza topped with chicken bits and barbecue sauce. It also challenged my pizza holding and eating skills!
It was good to get together to spend some time as a group enjoying a meal and also to discuss some filming we were taking part in later in the month.
The following week, we met to plan out how the filming would look, and the locations and scripts – where we will be and who we will be filming with.
Over half term, we took time out to meet the filming guys. We worked with them from Tuesday to Thursday and the finished product will be worth it as it tired us all out and got us a good night’s rest every night!
On Tuesday, we went to Blundell Park, and visited the main stand. We even got a behind the scenes look at the VIP section, which got us a rare viewing of our beloved Blundell Park that not many people have seen. Next, we had lunch from McDonalds before going to People’s Park, where we were filmed playing bowls and telling the film crew all about Grimsby and why we have joined the YPDG. We even had a few games of bowls whilst people were telling the film crew about Grimsby.
On Wednesday, we filmed in distinct locations around Grimsby, including Town, and walking around the construction site. We played football around boulevard and in the streets, climbed trees and even nearly broke the camera! I can’t spoil too much about what we did – you just have to wait until the movie comes out.
On Thursday we went to Cleethorpes and had cake and hot chocolate at the café whilst being filmed, getting shots from both inside and outside. We filmed shots at the bus stop, pier and on the beach, and watched the sunset.
The film crew were friendly and professional and made us feel at ease and like naturals on the film.
I even got the opportunity to go to the Anderton Residential Centre in Chorley to join
OnSide’s new Youth Advisory Board. I experienced heights and rainy nights, but enjoyed meeting people and learning more about the network that Horizon and the other Youth Zones are part of.
For the final week of February, we interviewed for the Communications and Marketing Coordinator, which was a great opportunity for our young people. We came up with the questions ourselves and we practiced our control of a professional setting and an informal setting.
We have enjoyed eating pizza, seeing how a professional film crew work and being in a short film. It was also great to interview for new roles and take ownership for helping to recruiting members of team Horizon.
Come back next month to find out all of the fun things we have been up to – next month will be even more exciting than this one!
